STAFF RESOURCES |
A compilation on library volumes per student and library collection expenditures per student at Rutgers was reviewed. The committee would like to do comparisons with appropriate ARL libraries on these ratios. It was also suggested that we see where we stood five and ten years ago on these and project the ratio based on an increased enrollment the University currently plans for.
The Committee discussed its plan for the next year. Agreeing to conduct large-scale surveys every 2-3 years, it will focus on short surveys that can be more easily designed, implemented, and analyzed during the coming year. The group considered a few user surveys done by other schools. They included a user survey on web resources at U Penn Center for Electronic Text and Image, library web site at McMaster University, electronic reserves at University of Vermont, electronic journals at NYU, on-line tutorials on information seeking skills and tools at Monash university, and remote access at University of Virginia Health Sciences Library.
After discussion, it was agreed to develop in the coming year three short surveys with specific timelines (shown below). The committee members assigned to specific survey will consult appropriate individuals and groups before they draft the questionnaire. The draft survey and the method (e.g. e-mail, web-based, etc.) to be used will be discussed by the committee before it is finalized and implemented.
The Committee at its two last meetings reviewed statistical data the Libraries collect systemwide on various services, resources, and hours. The proposed changes or elimination will soon be submitted to Cabinet for consideration for coming and future years.
The next meeting will be held on July 18, 2001 at 9:30 am.
