Revise Collections Allocation Process to Reflect the University's New Budgeting Philosophy in order to Insure Fair and
Thorough Consideration and Timeliness
- Develop understanding of and implement the all-funds approach to budgeting
- Become involved early in budget justification process
- Develop global approach to collection budgeting process
- Review and update "Fiscal Year Timetable For Collection Development and Acquisitions" (1999)
- Review and revise fund codes in order to recognize interdisciplinary nature of selection, reduce total number of codes, and facilitate the allocation process
- "Get more money"
Improve Financial Management of Collections Budget
- Conduct workshops for selectors and other interested staff
- Execute diligent fund management on all levels, including review of outstanding orders and serials commitments
Improve Liaison Relationships and General Communications with Users about Collections
- Post list of canceled titles on Libraries web page along with explanation of reasons and criteria used for cancellations
- Foster communications with academic department including visits to departments by AUL/CDM and selectors
- Develop better understanding of user behavior though surveys and focus groups
Expand and Improve Collection Development and Management Policy Documentation
- Establish working group to develop strategy for updating and creating new CDM policies and communicating/disseminating them effectively
- Update and/or create at least 10 CDM policies
Continue to Implement the 2001 Recommendations of the Preservation Committee
- Reestablish Preservation Committee to develop five-year plan specifying priorities, timetable for implementation, estimate of costs, minimal standards, etc.
Continue to Improve Workflow and Communication between Selectors and Acquisitions
- Establish Approval Plan Task Force to develop an RFP, evaluate RFP submissions, and recommend approval plan vendor
- Develop and follow consistent policies and procedures for cancellation. (Review and update "Policies for Serials Review" (2000) on the Collection Development web page)
Continue to Support DLI
- Finalize CDM Criteria Questionnaire
- Support Recon activities by providing priorities and funding (if possible) for recon activities
