Minutes of October 26, 2010 Meeting

Present:

1. Goals and Activities: The following were reviewed and accepted (with committee members volunteering as facilitators):

1. Partner with the Senate Committee on Research and Graduate Education to promote open access (Sewell)
2. Prepare a policy promoting deposit of publications of the Libraries' faculty in RUCore (Li)
3. Present to RUL faculty a workshop on promoting open access with handouts explaining processes (Gasparotto)

2. Izbicki introduced an idea for an RUL and SCI round table on the future of the monograph in print or online. Committee discussed the impact of declining budgets for approval books and firm orders for monographs on foreign publishers and vendors. All agreed on the importance of involving publishers and SCI students in the round table; Gasparotto will invite a publisher representative to participate.
