Data Architecture Working Group: Charge
The Data Architecture Working Group reports to the Technical Services Council. It is tasked with developing a
sustainable, interoperative, and extensible data architecture that will serve digital initiatives at Rutgers
University. To this end, the Working Group will examine the issues of interoperability and schema independence, and
develop a schema-independent core metadata registry that can be applied to digital initiatives at Rutgers University.
This metadata model will allow for extensible shared learning objects in the educational mission of the University.
Specifically, the Working Group will:
- Develop a core registry of metadata elements that will
support interoperability and flexibility of digital projects
at Rutgers University.
- Conduct an evaluation of educational metadata
strategies. Propose a framework for supporting educational
metadata initiatives.
- Recommend, propose, and/or develop a database
implementation and a generic metadata scheme that will
support digital projects in a wide array of subject fields
and diverse data objects.
- Hold a Libraries-wide conference on Data Architecture
that will include presentations on developing innovative
data architecture.
- Identify and meet with individuals and departments at RU
that create digital projects, for the purpose of
communicating objectives for sustainable data architecture.
Provide the basic tools for achieving sustainable data
architecture.
