The committee reviewed the "Library Services for Person with Disabilities" web page for accuracy. Eileen will notify Sam M. of necessary changes/ additions.
All Committee members were asked to check whether they have Jaws, WindowEyes software or both and get back to the chair.
We discussed the approved purchase of Kurzweil 3000 software and scanners for all six designated library locations. Marilyn Wilt has located a trainer in the new software, however she will check to see what kind of lab/software setup the trainer needs for training. Eileen will follow Joe's suggestion and check with Greg Moorehead to see if the NB/Piscataway Disability office has any training facilty set up for Kurzweil that we might be able to use.
Kevin noted that Kurzweil 3000 has uses for persons with learning disabilities, beyond visual impairment. This presents the group with an opportunity to serve a larger population and should be included in our training outcomes beyond learning the major features.
Kevin also pointed out that the Reference desk is a good promotion point for Kurzweil usage for those with learning disabilities. Signage may facilitate this promotion while allowing users to maintain a level of privacy.
Additional meetings will be scheduled as needed, rather than on a regular meeting basis, since we were able to accomplish all our work via email, SAKAI and a 30 minute meeting.
