- Group Discussion: Is it necessary to continue puling monographs from
the shelves in order to process the enhanced Marcive monograph
records? Should we process every monographic record we receive from Marvice
indiscriminately in light of the statistics that show we
consistently possess upwards of 91% of the items found on the monthly monographic
Marcive loads in our collections.
Minutes
The meeting was called to order at 10:04 a.m.
EC announced Nick Reinhardt and Melody Tomaszewicz would be members of the
group.
The minutes of August 12th meeting were approved. In the list of assignments:
All members were to read the handouts on Marcive Monographic and Serial
Processing Procedures, Marcive Monograph Power Search, and Serial within
a Series Guide.
- Reviewed Marcive Monographic Processing Procedures
BH will make
corrections where necessary and submit corrected copy to the group.
- BH gave presentation of use of Power-search Guide. Group reviewed
andaccepted
Marcive Monograph Power Search Check List.
- SERMARPEND . A SERMARPEND 500 note is put on Marcive
brief records, which have been modified. The
modifications to these records are recorded in a problem file at ALEX and
LSM. EL spoke on the problem of brief Marcive records not overlaying
with full bib records due to Marc holdings and control records on them.
EL mentioned when full records overlay brief records, the 500-note field
disappears and questioned the usefulness of this note. EC will bring this
topic to the Marcive Working Group for further discussion.
Meeting adjourned 11:55 a.m
Decisions
- Shipping list numbers will not be added or corrected on Marcive monographic
records. Shipping list numbers were determined to service no
purpose bibliographically, but would be helpful in finding items to match
monograph records.
- New procedures are needed for new monographs online.
- No control records or Marc holdings should be added to brief Marcive
records suspected to be serials.
Assignments
- KR will investigate procedure to charge out items to missing.
- BH will update corrections to Marcive Monograph processing procedures.
- EC will ask the Marcive Working Group for in put on usefulness of shipping
list numbers on records and the use of the note SERMARPEND in
bibliographic records.
