The role of the Government Publications Committee is to identify, recommend, and implement, as appropriate, programs and services that improve access to government publications.
The Committee will provide leadership and advocacy for government resources across the Rutgers University Library system, as well as within individual libraries. Members will work together to establish priorities for coordinating ongoing processing and cataloging issues and for identifying and acquiring new resources.
The Government Publications Committee is a subgroup of the Technical Services Council. The Chair of the GPC, or his/her designee, will attend meetings of the Technical Services Council to represent the Committee's concerns and to report on its efforts. The Committee Chair will work with the Technical Services Council to establish annual goals for the GPC.. The Government Publications Committee is also encouraged to consult with other Councils and to bring topics of interest to each Council, as appropriate.
Membership of the Government Publications Committee will be comprised of librarians who have significant, functional involvement with government publications/information on any of the campuses, including at least one representative from TAS.*
Appointments to the Committee will be made by the Associate University Librarian for Technical and Automated Services, with advice from campus directors and the Committee members. The Chair will be elected for a one-year term by Committee members. The Committee will meet at least once quarterly and will submit a written annual report to the Chair of the Technical Services Council.
* At the time of issuing this charge, Robeson Library has chosen not to have a formal representative on this Committee, but has asked that John Maxymuk be copied on the Committee's communications.
