ANNUAL REPORT
Government Publications Committee
April - June 2000
The Government Publications Committee, formed in April 2000, is a subgroup of the Technical Services Council (TSC). Its role is to identify, recommend, and implement programs and services that improve access to government publications. The issues and tasks that the committee discussed and accomplished included:
- Revised and approved the committee charge drafted by Harriette Hemmasi, the TSC chair;
- Reviewed RUL custom statement for Statistical Universe drafted by Mary Fetzer. The statement, which provides information about documents collections at RUL, has been submitted to CIS to be posted on the Statistical Universe's "Locate a Copy of This Publication in Your Library" page;
- Discussed the issue of sub-location for the oversized documents (33" or larger) at Alex and LSM. The committee decided to create DOC-FOLIO as a sub-location for the materials;
- Reached a decision on changing the circulation status of several documents collections in Alex and LSM including DOCUS, DOCLAW, DOCLNJ and DOCLUS;
- Discussed and endorsed the electronic version of the U.S. Government Periodicals Index, which will be recommended for purchase as a RUL networked resource;
- Started to discuss cataloging RUL's U.S. government documents collections by reviewing the 1991 "Task Force on GPO Tape Loads Final Report and Recommendations".
