The Committee has been working hard on several projects and proposals. Some of the projects were completed successfully while others are still on-going. The following is a summary of what we have accomplished.
Grant Proposal for Cataloging Pre-1984 New Jersey Documents at Alexander and LSM
The committee submitted a grant proposal requesting funding to catalog the pre-1984 New Jersey documents at Alexander and LSM. The proposal was included in the Special Collection/University Archives grant application to the New Jersey Historical Commission for General Operating Support in February 2001. Unfortunately, our request was not granted though SC/UA received some funds for other activities. Mary Fetzer and Rhonda Marker who wrote this proposal will work on a mini-grant proposal to the NJHC (up to $3,000) in the coming year.
The committee discussed and endorsed the requests for electronic resources written and submitted to CDC by Mary Fetzer after she tested and evaluated the databases. The following databases were approved and are presently available for public use:
The committee members are now checking the web links, both URLs and PURLs, for some of the full-text periodicals in GPU to be cataloged in IRIS, and working on the information for GPU's document location page.
Educational Seminars for Government Information
The committee discussed and submitted to the RUL faculty coordinator a proposal for training program to educate RUL librarians regarding online government information and the documents collections. Although the program proposal was positively received by the coordinator, our request to hold the program after the library faculty meeting was not accepted. The committee decided to postpone the program till RUL hires a training coordinator to handle the logistics.
