The Committee is extremely pleased with the seven workshops University Police Officer Richard McGilvery presented on lockdowns in the libraries in New Brunswick, at Technical and Automated Services, and Dana Library on the Newark campus. We thank Marilyn Wilt for coordinating the programs so effectively. She was able to quickly reschedule at our request, a presentation at Alexander on 4/14/09.
Officer McGilvery alerted the library community and the Committee about designating safety zones in every building, and to consider how best to communicate in lockdowns, e.g., when the situation is over something has to be in place so people will know it is safe to come out. We recommend committees in each of the libraries be formed to work on these issues as follows: Kelly Worth at Douglass, TAS to be determined, Bill Puglisi and Francoise Puniello for Alexander and Special Collections, Barry Lipinski at Kilmer and Kristi Conover will be asked for LSM. The Committee suggested we have representation from the Annex and we will talk to Judy Gardner.
Michele Petosa was invited to the meeting to work with the Committee on the Emergency Manual. She is formatting the information that we have given her and contacting additional areas for information, i. e., designated safe areas (she has heard from Dana, Douglass, Kilmer and Douglass). Michele will come to our next meeting to continue working with us on the Manual.
