Minutes of July 17, 2003 meeting

Agenda

1. Number remaining in the 930 to 866 conversion project
2. Update 930/866 conversion barcoding project
3. How to handle not putting pages in Marc holdings
4. By whom and how to handle updating records according to the revised 852 standard

Meeting was called to order @ 10:05am

1. Active titles with 930 tag:
Alex = 217
Alex and RUL units= 285
NBL units= 73
There maybe a few duplicates. Remaining titles need verification

2. Until procedures are in place for 863 conversions staff will continue to create 866’s
ALL periodical items are to be barcoded in the next 3 years
Collection Services staff is creating a training document and will train Access Services staff to barcode entire runs of active periodical titles.

3. There are many questions regarding not using p. or pp. in MARC. Questions will be brought to the Holdings Working Group by Paul
Questions:

1. Do citation numbers have to be shown in MARC
2. Should they be shown as items
3. How are titles with citation, abstract & pg. numbers claimed if they aren’t in MARC
4. How will the Annex add their holdings

Inconsistencies arise between MARC and the item, between Current and Bound controls and on-line
Info and spine label

1. To the group: Work on plan for updating the 852 tags with the revised standards
