Minutes of May 8, 2008 Meeting

1. Farewell Mary!

All LIS members wished Mary Page farewell and thanked her for her years of service on the LIS committee and at Rutgers University Libraries. Mary will be missed!

2. Update on Oracle Migration

a. Test System

Chris reported that there was a problem with diacritics in the initial test server migration. SirsiDynix found the cause of the problem and re-migrated the test database on Friday, May 2. The test system has now been running on Oracle for almost a week and Unicorn support staff in Systems are familiarizing themselves with the new maintenance routines. Dave Hoover still needs to implement the name server changes so that www.testiris points to the new server.

b. Production System

Chris distributed and reviewed a draft schedule listing the general steps Systems will perform to migrate to Oracle.

Bring IRIS and Workflows up on new server in live mode
Send message to rul_everyone that IRIS and Workflows are now up
Send message to palcirs-l that IRIS is back up/change option to accept requests 8:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m. Offline transactions uploaded to new server and loaded onto Unicorn 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. All units enter any manual checkout transactions 11:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. All units discharge and resume normal business in Workflows

c. Read-Only Configuration

Since we have not used our read-only documentation in over five years, Bob and Chris will configure the screen changes on our test server and ask Judy (representing services that will be disrupted such as RDS ) and Stephanie (representing IPAC) to review.

d. Name Server Changes

Chris reported that, similar to the IP address changes that were implemented in July of 2006, when we go live on the new server, it may take a couple of hours for www.iris.rutgers.edu to propagate through the network infrastructure and point to the new server. This means that some may not be able to connect to the new server right away. Given that we'll be making these changes in the middle of the night, we do not anticipate much of a disruption.

3. Next LIS Meeting

The next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, June 12, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. in the TSB conference room.
