Sub-committee for Rutgers Day met on May 19th to review this past year’s Rutgers Day and to recommend ideas for 2010’s event. Overall Rutgers Day 2009 was very successful for the libraries with over 1200 visitors taking part in our activities and visiting our information tents . Some recommendations for next year included more information for prospective students/parents about RU such as an admissions packet, more comprehensive activities and exhibits for children, opening the libraries a little earlier and to work more collaboratively with SCILS and the International Center to coordinate and promote each other’s events.
Group discussed reaching out to marketing staff at our aspirant and peer institutions to gather information on what is being done at other universities to market the libraries. Group discussed at length the type of questions that would meet our goals in assessing peer programs that have been effective in marketing. Harry and Glenn will work on organizing our thoughts to 10 main questions to facilitate a discussion with our peer institutions marketing staff. Several members of the marketing team were assigned two peer institutions to contact before the next marketing meeting in August.
Group discussed whether our multi-year plan was in line with the libraries overall strategic plan. Members agreed we should be looking at RUL’s strategic plan as we move forward in organizing our goals for our next multi-year plan as well as the research we have gathered from polling our peer institutions.
Some areas the group would like to focus more on in the next multi-year plan are developing connections with student groups, reaching out to new faculty, reaching out to new students at university organized events such as the Voorhees Mall Student Fair and Alumni relations events such as reunion weekends and the Rutgers Magazine.
