Minutes for September 14, 2009 Meeting

History of the Steering Committee

At the end of the 2008-2009 academic year, Cabinet voted to approve the recommendations submitted by the Cost Saving Task Force chaired by Jeanne Boyle.

As a result the Organizational Review Subcommittee was formed to investigate methodologies for implementing organizational cost savings and efficiencies.

In September, the Subcommittee recommended the following process: formation of a steering committee; steering committee will create review committees; review committees will make recommendation and report back to Steering; Steering will submit final recommendations to Cabinet by December 2009.

Cabinet approved this recommendation.

Charge of this Steering Committee

The Steering Committee is charged with the oversight of the review process the end result to be to make recommendations for organizational cost-savings and improvement in efficiency. Three main areas have been identified by Cabinet for review: reference services; the grants process (including external funding); materials delivery (ILL, media, etc.)

This Steering Committee will provide oversight and clarity for this and the subsequent review committees for the review teams it will establish for each area identified.

Mark noted that creating the appropriate working groups is key and that each group will optimally be comprised of experts and non-experts in each of the identified areas.
