AUL/PSC Report - JEB
- OPAC interface implementation committee looking at the University of Virginia
interface again, ours needs some changes
- received survey from CONSER; concerned with the 510 (indexed by) field,
committee gave input
- G.A. appointed for public services support in central administration -
Christine A. Mills, SCILS student
- Electronic Services Committee and WAC are working on brochures; WAC had major
discussion on e-journals and how they are presented on our web page - this will
be an agenda item at the next SACOPS meeting with invited guests (i.e. Lida
Sak, Jeris Cassel); WAC asked for SACOPS imput: should all entrees to the FAQ
and Ask a Librarian be consistent? We agreed - on the libraries home page,
within the catalog and from the universities questions page all buttons should
work the same way and should begin with the Questions button and everyone
should enter via the FAQ page.
- RU has articulation agreements with 2 year colleges in New Jersey - we need
more outreach to new transfer students
- distributed memo from Mary Page re:communications from SACs, committee agreed
with all points, JEB will distribute agenda early; also discussed taking
substantive information from the meeting minutes and elaborate on them for
short articles in the AGENDA.
- Networked Electronic Resources - distributed 2 handouts/flowchart and list,
will be able to click on name of resource and find out status, will keep all
names of resources under consideration and decisions made, suggested adding a
box to flow chart for Cabinet review
- distributed memo re:holdings of e-journals for next meeting
- distributed SIRSI 9.2.1 Release Notes as a sample; most recent information is
available on-line at http://www.sirsi.com click on Information for
customers our passwords are rult or rulp
SYSTEMS/LIS UPDATES - AM
- Bob Warwick is joining systems dept. as a systems programmer as of 12/1
- loaded release 9.2.2 into test system, have some problems, hope to have it up
by weekend of 12/8
- Eureka web client up
- GEAC dead
- RUL hosting SIRSI users group meeting on 12/9, 10am-2pm, at SCC
- reindexing database, will require some downtime probably after 1/2/98
- RFP written for work on authorities
INTERLIBRARY LOAN UPDATE - JG
- distributed 2 handouts on ILL activities
- our total ILL activities has remained fairly constant over the last few years
- participated in ARL ILL performance study last fall, improvement needed
especially in borrowing for our users, our fill rate was in the lowest 10% of
the libraries in the study and the time it took to get photocopies was in the
highest 10% of the participants; study also was designed to discover best
practices, waiting for results, possibility of RUL poor showing may be higher
use of commercial document delivery services by other libraries
- looking at on-line ILL form, Dave Hoover has posted a draft form on the web
after its revised JG will send us the URL, also looking at UNICORN form
- attended meeting to identify areas of improvement; eliminate duplication of
efforts, streamline staff and workflow, improve notification process and
messages
- when on-line ILL form is available we will also need on-line MDS form
CD-ROM WORK GROUP REPORT REVISIT - BB
- we agreed with the principle of consistency and not using sublocations or
separate bib records for the same title in different formats
- government documents SIG will revisit DOCUSC
- we need to look at list of locations and see if/what we can consolidate or
eliminate
DIGIPRINT - SN
- Digiprint is a scanner that can make a print from micro-opaque cards
- Alexander has many major sets of these, hard to read on machine and cant
photocopy from reader
- SACOPS recommends - look for equipment money to purchase machine for Alexander
or copy center for whole system use.
ASK A LIBRARIAN - JEB/ALL
- distributed additional information to packet of background material for
discussion
- looked at examples from other university libraries, discussed possible
scenarios and draft policy statement
- need to make this service more rational, more easily handled by librarians and
staff, may need more resources to accomplish this
- preferred scenario - route questions to broad subject clusters rather than
libraries, use same or similar categories as FAQs, route through FAQs to
eliminate repetitive technical/systems type questions
- hope to implement sometime in spring semester
Last 2 agenda items held for December meeting.
Meeting adjourned 11:55am
