After discussion of the difficulties encountered with reserve controls records scheduled for removal on the week of 2/16 the group decided that item control records will be removed on the 31st of January, and brief records and files on the server will be removed on the 10th of February to potentially accommodate late rollover requests. Furthermore, the reserves calendar of events will also be updated to reflect these changes.
As part of strategic and budget planning and implementation, Lila Fredenburg and Jeanne Boyle have begun developing a cost center analysis model that we can apply to the various work areas in the Libraries. They are beginning by studying the reserves service and several of the group have been invited to attend a meeting scheduled to take place on the 24th of February in the Alexander Library. An important part of the study is to identify and quantify each of the tasks involved in reserve work. Penny asked the participants to report about this at our next month's meeting.
Stephanie Bartz was our guest to discuss IPAC issues. Stephanie stated that she had problems locating several reserve items on various occasions, and felt that the reason was the discrepancies or variations in the way course titles were on reserve. She hopes a different standard can be implemented in order to make searching for reserves material more "public friendly". The group however felt that it difficult to create a standard other than the copying and pasting from the online schedule of courses; which is currently the standard used. Various solutions had come up, but one which would potentially help with the situations was to ask Bob Warwick to remove older non-active courses so that courses with titles deviating from the standard are removed. The group will continue discussing the issue.
Penny Weniger asked the group for suggestions on additional information and goals which the group had achieved to include in the report along with the traditional statistical information.
This item was tabled and will be discussed at a future reserve group meeting.
The March meeting is cancelled due to a meeting conflict of the coordinator. The next Reserve meeting is scheduled for April 15, 2009. Place and time TBA.
