Judy demonstrated a report generated on Directors Station which may be useful for keeping statistics of numbers of reserves processed by semester. The report could be run each semester just before reserve materials are removed from the system. These statistics may also be used to provide professors with information on the usage of their print reserves, (however the number of circulations includes the total reserve check outs for the item not just for the current semester). Pros and cons of emailing professors with this information were discussed. Zohreh, Judy, and Penny will meet to run the reports for each reserve desk for the Fall 2010 semester on Directors Station. It was decided that these should be posted on Sakai for ease of accessibility. In addition we need to add formula to obtain totals and conduct analysis.
The report from the Delivery Services Team on Reserves processes was discussed. Possible efficiencies in this process were outlined in the report. Scanning is a time consuming part of the reserves process, however all scanning equipment used for reserves will be inventoried and recommendations to replace outdated/problematic equipment will be made. The integration of e-reserves into course management software was also discussed in this review. The statistics currently being kept by the group will be useful in determining the extent of use of reserves and who will be affected by a change in the reserves process.
A recent list-serv discussion by a number of academic librarians on the topic of reserves was reviewed. The issue of trying to provide text books through professor's personal copies was mentioned.
The next meeting is on December, 15 2010, location TBA
