PALCI Loaning Procedures: Trapping/Untransit
- Test sites for shipping PALCI loans without trapping holds determined that it usually works
- New procedure - Skip the step of trapping holds and untransiting PALCI loans and simply
ship loans in PALCI (this new procedure is optional, not required)
- At this point, we will not be receiving two separate lists (PALCI and non-PALCI) of items
to pull
- Report any problems encountered to Katie
J-Client Toolbars
- Anyone interested in having J-Client installed on their desktop, let Katie know
- A few additional volunteers are needed to try and make recommendations for an RDS toolbar
in J-Client
- Generic J-Client training will take place in May
- RDS and ILL training in J-Client will be the responsibility of the Resource Sharing Group
to develop
- Two new discussion groups in Sakai under Resource Sharing:
Staff Resources Page
- The design of the Resources Sharing Group section is up to the group
- Resource Sharing Group members should look at the NBL site (which is being discontinued)
and suggest:
- What items to archive
- Proposed new design (by April)
- What to keep
- What to change
- What to add
- Katie will post the URL to the old NBL page (nbl.rutgers.edu)
Information Sharing
- Kristen M: If you receive an item returned by a patron, and on discharging item, it comes
up as "ILS – Recalls", please put a slip in it or label and ship it separately to ILS –
Recalls
- Resource Sharing Group decides to add "ILS – Recalls" as a choice on Hold Slips
- Kristen M: The new ILL system chosen is Iliad; details at a later date
- Priscilla: If you cannot scan a thick item and get "lid is not closed" message on the Canon
machine, you can place a weight on the latch by the hinge on the copier to trick it into
perceiving that the lid is closed
- Ray: (question from Sakai) Recommended procedure if there are two RUL copies of a requested
item and one is checked out and your library’s copy is missing. Resource Sharing Group
recommends removing the patron’s hold so the patron can use PALCI; the patron will get the
item faster and the other patron won’t get a recall
- Resource Sharing Group decides if a patron requests an item that is missing and RUL has an
older edition, create a hold for the older one we have, and send it to the patron
- Resource Sharing Group discusses RUL messages that go to patrons with spam blocker that
sends a message back to RUL saying "Are you a legitimate e-mail?" Systems will ignore the
question and the patron will not get the e-mail
- Meghan: In Workflows, you can post messages to a patron in "My Account" (not an e-mail)
Tour of Shipping at Alexander Library
- Henry Charles and his staff welcomed the Resource Sharing Group and gave a interesting
overview of their operation
