Copies of the BSMFG mid-year report were handed out to everyone in the group. The report included details on membership changes to the group, security inventories of all NBL units, examination of all NBL unit emergency doors, and drafts on procedures for activated exit alarms and emergency checklists for students.
Rose led further discussion on drafts she and Ramon have been working on for exit alarm and emergency procedures documentation. She has not yet decided what format will be used to present the material as a training aid for student workers.
Copies of the draft were handed out and discussed with group. Suggestions were made for additions and revisions to the documentation:
1) Include procedures for dealing with patrons who refuse to allow guards to check their bags,
2) Train guard desk staff on writing brief descriptions in case a suspicious patron runs away before being questioned bystaff, and
3) Request that procedures for dealing with bomb threats be revised and made more clear in the emergency manual. Rose asked members of the group to send review the drafts and send her any further suggestions.
Roselyn raised a concern regarding the amount of responsibility a staff member has in cleaning up messes such as broken glass. Zohreh responded to Roselynís concern by stating that dangerous clean- up (i.e. broken glass) should be left to the custodial staff. Minor clean-ups can be left to the discretion of the staff member.
Zohreh reminded all members to send in their exit gate alarm records, emergency exit door counts, and alarm checklists.
RUPD is hiring community officers to patrol wards 5 and 6 in response to the recent crimes near College Ave Campus. The officers will be uniformed and highly visible within the area.
RUPD and paramedics were called when an Alex patron reported feeling ill. The patron was taken away by the paramedics.
Theft of an Alex book was reported. The patron (not a Rutgers student) ripped the barcode and call number label in an attempt to steal the material. RUPD was called, book was retrieved, and damages repaid.
Late-night shuttle information for posting and brochures on stolen property awareness were distributed at the RUPD/NBL supervisors meeting. Zohreh brought in examples of both documents.
Michele has not yet heard the decision on getting an RUPD security guard to do rounds at LSM during closing. She will follow up with Farideh.
Alex will lend a set of 2-way radios to Douglass for testing. Douglass will later determine whether a set should be purchased for the building
