Agenda

Announcement/Updates

The Exit Gate Procedures project page was shared with the Coordinator’s Group. There were no changes made by the group, so the page will go on the NBL site by the end of the month.

Zohreh is gathering old group meeting minutes from past leaders: Jeff, Barry and Rose. Due to the variety of formats the old minutes were composed in, some of the minutes may need to be scanned for use on the web.

Roger and Zohreh met about procedures to ban a patron from the libraries. Roger is taking the matter to Farideh for further discussion.

Maintenance Concerns

Administration/All Units

All units should check their building’s outside lights to see that they are all functioning. Report any problems to facilities.

RUPD has an online daily crime log on the public safety website. All RU related crimes and cases and their status listed there.

All units should have signs posted on or near their security gates alerting patrons that electronic devices are in use. If you need this sign, it is available on the NBL website or through Zohreh.

Security

Administration/All Units

The order has gone through for walkie-talkies for the units to add an extra measure of security

The group expressed interest in the possibility of hiring student security personnel for nights and weekends to add an extra measure of security.

Alexander
- Alexander library put information and pamphlets on their bulletin board about safety tips. The information included numbers to the campus police, van service, and late night security escorts. Any units who are interested in a copy of this information can contact Zohreh.

Douglass
- Douglass Library and Community Police Officers at Douglass Campus will offer a security/safety workshop to extended hours and weekends student staff in personal safety and building security.
Kilmer
- Jill brought up the possibility of a guard desk at Kilmer due to a recent rise in security issues. After discussion it was decided due to the layout of the first floor at Kilmer there is not enough space to position a guard desk at Kilmer.
- The librarians in conjunction with the PC coordinators have put up signs to warn patrons against leaving laptops unattended.
- The security training with the community police officer has been cancelled again. The new date is TBA.

Information Sharing

Administration
- Nothing new reported

Douglass
- Staff is continuing to try to crack down on patrons bringing food and drink into the library. It is a challenge since the guard desk faces patrons exiting the building not those entering. Patrons have an easier time sneaking in food. Douglass now has student guard desk workers.
Kilmer
- Update on the laptop theft in September. RUCS received a signal of unauthorized use from the stolen laptop. The police came to Kilmer, where the laptop was being used, and arrested the suspected thief. Barry will report back with more details next meeting.
LSM
- LSM had an incident where an emergency exit alarm was going off and no one in the staff offices or circulation area could hear it. Student staff members doing closing rounds discovered the alarm.
- Also, the stairwell that leads to that emergency exit door has no outlet to any of the library since all exits are kept locked. Therefore a patron who uses that stairwell has no choice but to use the emergency exit to leave the area. This raised some concerns about the possible use of this exit to steal from the collection. The group suggested that LSM post signs that the stairwell should only be used in emergencies.
- The old HVAC system was removed from the parking lot.
- All the furniture in the library is going to be reupholstered.
