Training and Learning Advisory Committee: Charge
Summer 2004
The primary charge of the Training and Learning Advisory Committee is to support and manifest the
Libraries' training and learning philosophy articulated in the 2000 Investment in Learning Report. At
the same time, the Committee supports the Libraries' strategic plan, A Bridge to the Future: The
Rutgers Digital Library Initiative.
The Committee's objectives:
- Design and implement a comprehensive training and learning process that facilitates the ongoing assessment/identification of learning needs, in support of strategic goals, acquiring necessary competencies. The process includes ongoing evaluation of effectiveness of implemented programs to better inform the ongoing process.
- Design and implement learning programs to address identified needs, with multiple venues/delivery mechanisms to maximize potential access, and to link to online support, as appropriate.
- Partner with learning resources both within Rutgers University and in the community at large, to expand scope and understanding.
- Design and implement the training and learning infrastructure that facilitates communication and supports successful implementation of the programs and the overall process. Initial components of the infrastructure: (1) training and learning coordinator; (2) advisory committee; (3) liaison/facilitators.
In 2004, the Committee is building on the foundation of programs, processes, and resources developed
and implemented since the summer of 2001. With the development of the second phase of the Digital
Library Initiative, it is incumbent on the Committee to reflect on its roles and responsibilities to
move the Committee's work to the next level. We will continue to work to successfully achieve the
stated objectives, and we will focus on the further development of the infrastructure described in
the fourth objective above.
