Marilyn apologized for the lateness of the minutes from the February meeting of the committee.
Marilyn reported that Mary Page's lunchtime seminar on Web 2.0 was well attended and received. The next seminar will be conducted by Chris Sterback and Jan Reinhart on March 29. The topic will be the Sirsi/Dynix superconference.
The second session of the Supervising for Excellence series will be presented tomorrow, March 22. The topic will be Verbal Communication. Jeff explained that the presentation is hands on; Marilyn added that there is no hiding behind a PowerPoint in this series. The focus of the session on March 22 will be active listening and giving/receiving feedback. Participants have been asked to identify a supervisory skill that they would like to work on. They will report tomorrow on their plans for developing the identified skill. Jeff reported that the participants have been enthusiastic and the evaluations have been positive.
Anne Butman's program on Effective File Structure has been postponed until April. Marilyn has two dates under consideration for rescheduling.
Marilyn is also consulting on the implementation of Office 2007 in RUL. She will have more to report to the committee at a later date. There will be a small core group of RUL "first testers" and this group will, in turn, make a training presentation to larger groups from RUL.
The RUL Committee on Diversity and the Training and Learning Committee have so far identified three presenters on foreign libraries for the Libraries of the World Showcase, our National Library Week celebratory event. More should be forthcoming. The presentation, expanding on the National Library Week theme-Come together @ your library! will take place on Tuesday, April 17 from 1:30 pm to 4:30 pm in the Pane Room, Alexander Library. Marilyn will send out a "Save the Date" along with an invitation to the event.
A separate e-mail will be sent announcing the launch of the new and improved Training and Development website.
Jeanne reported on the work of the Strategic Planning Committee. Area reports from committee members and non-members have so far formed the basis of the larger report the committee plans to submit. All RUL units that submitted reports to the committee in support of the development of the plan have been asked to complete and submit a "grid" ranking the statements and goals of the strategic plan as they relate to the work of the particular committee. Marilyn reviewed the grid rankings (primary and secondary) of the Training and Learning Committee's activities as related to the Strategic Plan's goals. There being no further business before the committee, the meeting was adjourned.
