Minutes of April 8, 2013 Meeting

Chair – no report

Faye – no report, still waiting to see where the group is going. The Online Self-Directed Learning Activity task is completed. Vib thanked her for all her hard work.

Geoff – We are ready to submit final revisions of the web site to Sam. Marilyn suggested spotlighting the LLAMA program dealing with change. The presenter, Elliot Shire is the executive director of ACRL. It is modestly priced, 90 minutes long, and scheduled for May 20. Jackie Mardikian of the RUL Leadership and Development group has announced a panel presentation on May 14 bringing together people who have participated in outside leadership programs. There was a unanimous voice vote to spotlight both programs. The next step is to go to Lila for implementation. There was discussion of what happens after that.

Marilyn – Several people have offered suggestions for possible future programs – e.g., CPR, self-defense, digital gadgets, yoga, media training, storing RUL sessions, mental health training on students in distress. Elsa will be doing Excel training for selectors at Dana in April. The Libraries have purchased five additional licenses for Lynda.com (giving us a total of 8).

Christina surveyed everyone at the Libraries to identify any groups that are currently providing training in-house. Her survey received 13 responses. Christine used the Qualtric survey program for the survey. [The Libraries’ have a license for Qualtric.] The committee will decide whether or not to add a link on the website to the list of groups [e.g. SAPAC and LEAD].

There was a discussion of changing our name to “Professional and Continuing Education”. The committee is reviewing and revising the committee’s charge, both the goal statement and the objectives.

Committee members were asked to send objective / name recommendations to Vib and Marilyn by May 7th.

The next scheduled meeting is Tuesday, May 14th from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.
