Minutes of July 13, 2005 Meeting

1. AUL Report:

Melissa Johns, the SCILS diversity intern, was introduced. Melissa will be working in Technical and Automated Services, in the Cataloging Department, for the summer semester, having previously worked in Circulation and Special Collections and University Archives.

2. Digital Repository:

Glace articulated the role of the repository, d-Rkive.

1. Faculty research - the repository offers permanent storage, access and technical platform
2. Collaborative Learning Systems, such as SAKAI
3. Publication, such as:
   • N.B. Graduate School Theses and Dissertation
   • RU Press archive of out-of-print books
   • Streamlining RUTV content into repository,
   • NJDH which utilizes in-house materials especially form Special Collections & University Archives and the Institute for Jazz Studies
   • Archiving the university's websites
   • e-journals

She mentioned by January 2006 the repository will be a matured platform, able to accept new collections and projects.

RUL librarians are active in Fedora management on a national scale: Grace is on the Steering Committee, Ron Jantz is the chair of its preservation committee, Linda Langschied is chair of the outreach committee, etc.

3. ALA Reports:

Gracemary Smulewitz, Chris Sterback, and Cathy Pecoraro reported on their investigations in to Electronic Resource Management Systems (ERMS), particularly the preconference on ERMS that Chris and Cathy attended at ALA.
