The committee agreed to schedule the meetings for the Spring 2002 semester on the 2nd Tuesday of the month, so meetings will be on:
The web page designer's contract is completed. Sam's calendar is full up to 23rd December. Lots of templates have been developed in the new format.
The Rutgers Web Developers meeting drew 300 people. Bernice Ginder and Mark Washington demoed a prototype of My Library to be tested by a group, which has already been set up.
There was discussion of WorldCat being a catalog, which will not be added to the Indexes & Databases pages. Its description will reflect the idiosyncrasies of RUL in WorldCat.
Finding Guides need either to grow up to Research Guides or move laterally. The Ref Guides group is going to add pointers to multidisciplinary guides from subsections of the Reference Guides.
A workshop will be held in the spring, perhaps in cooperation with the Collection Development Council, which is working on garnering commitment to produce needed Reference Guides. Before this workshop, the guidelines written by WAC in the past should be reviewed. WAC hopes to present proposal for cooperative workshop to CDC at its January 7 meeting.
The immersion program was discussed and reviewed at the last ISC meeting as well at the PSC meeting. The ISC group is adding materials for instructors to the IS page, including examples of what can be done.
Ferris Olin has requested a separate host name for the Margery Somers Foster collection. The library could create "libraries.rutgers.edu" so we could then have subdomains like foster.rutgers.edu. There was much discussion of various ways of shortening urls for RUL sites. Dave will look into creation of libraries.rutgers.edu domain name.
New public workstations email will not send content of the message but can send web pages. So forms will need to be created for all mail to: recipients. They will not be done for all on the directory pages, but will be created for all "service" people. This will go into effect on January 1, on new machines already sent out.
At an inquiry about phrase searching in Htdig, Dave said that he would distribute the url to WAC to test newer version, which has phrase searching.
Leslie pointed out that the User Services page doesn't include a user guide for reference services with links to reference desk phone numbers, AAL, etc.
With regard to the restriction of access to staff pages, it seems the only real item needing restriction is SIRSI documentation, and cabinet minutes, which include the budget.
There was discussion of the shift in some places on the RUL web pages from "e-resource" to "electronic resource".
Sam invited the group to look at prototype pages at www.libraries.rutgers.edu/rul/demo, under current projects, because we have little time for discussion. He will track comments (write them down).
The Alcohol Studies Research Guide has a modified How Do I…, which will be on all top pages. There is a problem implementing this on pages with double columns. Design Group will consider this issue more.
