ISG Centralized Telephone Reference Meeting Minutes March 9, 1999

Present: Ben Beede, Ilona Caparros, Linda Langschied, Laura Mullen, Pat Piermatti (recorder), Lisa Vecchioli

The meeting was called to order at 9:35am by the Team Leader, Pat Piermatti.

The major topic for discussion was the first draft dated March 1999 of the team's report.

Linda Langschied initiated comments with a question--is the one number, 932-LIBS going to be sufficient? If we are a mirror operation to 932-INFO, do we know what theINFO staffing is? What are the staffing needs for NBCTIS? Where will the voucher funding come from? (Topics to be discussed at a future meeting). Linda then gave the results of her survey of telephone handsets in each NB library:

Douglass:
2 telephone handsets at Circulation desk
1 telephone handset in the Circulation Office

Alexander:
2 telephone handsets at the Circulation desk
2 telephone handsets at the Reference desk
1 telephone handset at the Information desk

Kilmer:
2 telephone handsets at the Circulation desk
2 telephone handsets at the Reference desk

LSM:
2 telephone handset at the Circulation desk
1 telephone handset at the Reference desk
1 telephone handset in the Reference Office

Does the team believe that all of these current public access points can be funneled into one telephone number-932-LIBS? Additionally, Linda suggested that there be one full-time librarian in supervisory charge--perhaps as a special project for a semester...to get service launched. Discussion ensued.

The team then discussed an automated system to screen out the most common queries. The team recommends the following:

At the next NBCTIS meeting, April 13th, LSM-9:30-Noon -- we will discuss the operational details of Item 4. What the routing path is, level of staffing, funding for staffing, space issues, etc.
