The steering groups discussed different ways of making better use of the unit computing specialists across the New Brunswick libraries and of supporting Systems as needed, particularly given the current staffing shortage. We will continue this discussion when we have more information regarding proposed changes in the reporting structures for the UCSs.
There will be a pilot of a virtual reference service, using VSee software, at Douglass Library beginning this spring. In its first stage, Tom Izbicki, Acting Music Librarian, will use VSee to provide reference for a few hours a week to faculty and students in the Music Department. In the second stage, we will have a regular schedule for virtual reference service from the Douglass Library reference desk. At the end of the trial we will assess its effectiveness and discuss expanding to other libraries.
