Upgrades are coming for the ILL Manager software. MacAfee anti-virus and the Novell client software will be updated soon. John Gibson found a version of the Polycomm software that works on a pc like Net Meeting, but with better quality.
Ann B. will check with Grace whether there will be another wave of pc replacements this year.
Marilyn wants to go live with the technical orientation for new hires this January. Almost all our materials are complete. All will be reposted to the listserv before next month's PCWG meeting so any final comments can be made either to the list or at the December meeting. After which, they will be posted to the PCWG Best Practices page.
We discussed the need to search the archived minutes of RUL committees.
Ann B. distributed some brochures on computer security she picked up from OIT's Information Protection and Security section.
We discussed the testing of the switch of microfilm machines default for saving from floppy disk to USB flash drive. The biggest stumbling block appears to be the location of the USB port on the back of the Compaq machines. We recommended that saved files from these machines be erased after 48 hours, not automatically upon reboot. Daryl also pointed out that these machines will not time out if you insert a copy card in the reader.
The next meeting is scheduled for December 21. As usual, on Tuesday, 10AM in the TSB Conference Room.
