Anne will be putting together an order for new pcs with end-of-the-year money. This is partly to support the upcoming migration to Office 2007. The second round of pc swaps will wait until this is done. The new machines will have no floppy drives and will not come with Vista – that migration will come later.
The law libraries in Camden and Newark will change from ILL Manager to Iliad in early June.
Anne reiterated that training will begin with Marci Anszperger in June.
Nick reported that a grant has been approved for new servers and the plan is to upgrade from Novell to Windows 2003 servers. Novell is more expensive, and Windows has more functionality although it is les secure. Camden and Newark will continue to have their own local backups.
Anne is doing the File Structure Training sessions this week.
We discussed authentication issues for public pcs again in light of the topic being discussed at Cabinet. Douglass will be installing authentication software on some public pcs, and Kilmer is discussing the possibility of putting authentication software on 5-10 pcs and adding the Office Suite to those machines to serve as a backup for their overflowing computer lab. This would necessitate two separate images for Douglass pcs. As a group we decided to follow the lead of Public Services Council on this issue.
The next meeting is scheduled on May 15 at 10AM in the TSB Conference Room.
