New Public PCs will be delivered to Camden this week and installed the week after next. Next week, PCs will be delivered to Newark. Systems is shooting for having all new machines installed by the end of July and, if possible, all existing systems will by reimaged within that time frame as well.
Kurzweil training is occurring at Alex, LSM and Douglass over the course of 7/9 and 7/10.
Nick reported he has completed migrating New Brunswick/Piscataway libraries: TSB, LSM, KILMR, ALEX, DGLSS, CHANG and the satellite buildings. He encountered a few newer problems like the blackberry calendar, delayed login on some clients but was able to resolve them. There are two more libraries to migrate:
Robeson Library in Camden this week and Dana Library in Newark next week
This will complete the first phase of the migration process which is joining all workstations to the new RULIB domain.
Next step is to migrate all the Data or the Network drives from Novell server to Windows server. All network drives will be moved to Windows servers; this involves moving groups and their assigned directories and subfolders. The target date will be the weekend of August 1, Friday to Sun. During this time, there will be no saving to the network drives. Nick will send an email to RUL_Everyone about this Cut-Off time. Starting Monday, August 4, everyone should be logging in to the Windows server, and the Novell servers will be shutdown. This process is being done in the background and does not involve any client intervention.
Last phase of the migration is removing Novell clients on the workstations. Nick will send more details about this once the Data migration is completed.
Rich reported that he might purchase a Tandberg for the Pane Room if he can get a good price rather than wait for the coming improvement of Lifesize. The two-screen option for sharing presentations at videoconferenced meetings was also discussed.
It was noted that OIT will be replacing RULink.
The next meeting is scheduled for September 16 at 10AM in the TSB Conference Room.
