Minutes of March 16, 2010 Meeting

Systems Update

Lending laptops are in for the pilot project at Art. There will be a splash screen login with a usage agreement that users will have to accept. Sara Harrington will work on signage. Waiting for charging stations before starting distribution.

Alexander and LSM staff netbooks are also in. 40 out of 66 new PCs ordered have arrived and distribution will begin by the end of the month. Macs have not yet arrived and will go out more slowly by mid-April.

We will have a demonstration of Zimbra which seems to be the most cost effective choice for the migration from RULINK. It is web accessible, but does not address Bookroom scheduling natively. If Zimbra where to be chosen as the alternative there will need to be some programming or linking to the bookroom system until all issues could be resolved.

Old/new business and updates

Nick is working on the automated backup. The hardware has been received. The pilot will take place at TAS. He will check on updates required for the Master Backup program. He will also test Windows backup.

Rich - need to look at software and firmware updates and upgrades for conferencing equipment. Currently have 1 yr service contracts for LifeSize and Polycom. VGA resolution needs upgrades.

Andrew - New Fordham Lab image will be deployed by the end of the week and the newly hired staff member starts tomorrow. Asked whether or not the Visual History Archive (Shoah Archive) database will be added to the library proxy.

Stephanie brought up the need for PC Reservation Management Console emergency instructions.

Discussed Adobe Connect Pro requiring a process to set up for others to use, unable to just give someone the account information because of licensing. Some members of PCWG have been using it successfully although the sound is not always good. So far seems best for small groups.

Regular business followed by a demonstration by Vladimir Gabrielescu from OIT of the Zimbra Calendaring/Mail Client. RULINK is being replaced, Zimbra was chosen for OIT and already in use there, chosen for its feature of allowing mobile device interface, shared calendaring, web interface, and tier 1 - 24/7 level support. Will allow for multiple domains, such as 'Libraries'. There will be a 30 day trial for PCWG members and selected users from administration. Questions will be directed to Anne Butman. Possibility of group classes when migrating if the libraries opted to go with this product.
