Ordering, Receiving, and Cataloging Workflow for Special Collections and University Archives Monographs and Serials
- All Special Collections materials (excluding continuous serial orders, i.e. subscriptions) are ordered and
received as monographs by Acquisitions.
- After being received, all Special Collections materials are sent to the Special Collections Cataloging Librarian
for review.
- The Special Collections Cataloging Librarian catalogs all Special Collections monographs, and sends all Special
Collections serials to the Continuing Resources Cataloging Librarian.
- If the item is a new issue of a serial already cataloged in IRIS, the Continuing Resources Cataloging Librarian
updates the existing serial record and transfers the monograph record with the purchase order to the existing serial
record. The item is then sent to Distributed Technical Services for post-cataloging processing.
- If the item is a new serial that does not exist in IRIS, the Continuing Resources Cataloging Librarian transfers
the monograph record with the purchase order to a new serial record, catalogs it, and sends it to Distributed
Technical Services for post-cataloging processing.
- Continuing serial orders, i.e. subscriptions will continue to be ordered via DTS.
