Training and Learning Resources within Rutgers University

University Human Resources Professional Development Programs
UHR believes that employee learning and development at Rutgers is a shared responsibility between the employee and his/her supervisor. The site provides links to a variety of training resources within the University. Within the site:
(1) Personal and Professional Development Workshops - Benefit Seminars, Business/Accounting Courses, Communication Enhancement, Employee Development and Management, General Programs, Information Technology, Knowledge Management, Organization Management, Pay-for-Performance/Staff Compensation Program, Personal Career Development, Presentation and Training Skills, Responsible Conduct of Research, Service to Students and Clients, and Special Topics including Certificate and Special Programs; Professional Work Skills; Retreats, Rutgers Day, Supervisor Development for Non-Supervisors (Newark), and Self-Study workshops.
(2) Additional Training Resources Facilitation Services, Coaching Services, and Custom Training

Center for Teaching Advancement and Assessment Research
The Center for Teaching Advancement and Assessment Research offers three types of workshops throughout the year for faculty and staff. Computer workshops include Excel, PowerPoint, Dreamweaver, and other similar topics. Faculty teaching support workshops and the Teaching Assistant: Teaching with Technology workshops focus largely on teaching and classroom issues, but individual librarians may be interested in specific offerings (such as Web Design and Accessibility and Podcasting).

Center for Management Development (Rutgers CMD)
Rutgers CMD offers open enrollment programs in Business, Human Resources, Leadership and Management, including the Mini-MBA. Instructors are Rutgers University faculty members and industry experts. Participants can earn a variety of credits and certifications, including academic graduate credit.

Rutgers Division of Continuing Studies (DoCS)
Rutgers Division of Continuing Studies offers three categories of skills development programs: Certificate Programs, Credit Programs and Non-Credit Programs Those working in the libraries may be most interested in some of the non-credit courses, including courses in Microsoft Office, Managing Multiple Priorities, Project Management, Problem Solving and Decision Making, and Effective Business Presentations. These course are not free, and some of the general technical skills and soft skills opportunities offered through DoCS are also available to faculty and staff at no cost through existing internal organizations like University Human Resources, etc.

Division of Grant and Contract Accounting
The DGCA is a contributor for the Business/Accounting Certificate program, and the Academic Personal Program, as well as programs in financial management of sponsored programs.

Rutgers University Emergency Services (RUES)
Rutgers University Emergency Services offers training in CPR/First Aid, Defensive Driving, Emergency Medical Technician, Fire Safety, and Community Emergency Response Team (CERT).

Office of Information Technology
The Office of Information Technology offers short hands-on workshops or lecture/demonstration seminars on various supported software and systems, on all three campuses. Online registration is available for each campus.

Office of Research and Sponsored Programs
The Office of Research and Sponsored Programs offers programs in Grant Processing and Budgeting Basics, Human Subject Research workshops and presentations, and Grant-Writing Strategies.

Division of Payroll Services
The Division of Payroll Services offers half-day morning workshops on the proper completion of payroll forms. They are held on the third Thursday of each month.

Purchasing (RIAS)
RIAS offers a Business/Accounting Certificate Program through the University's Professional Development Program. It offers full-time University employees opportunities to earn a Business/Accounting Certificate or a Business/Accounting Supervisor Certificate. RIAS also offers hands-on RIAS computer-based classroom training, as well as online instruction for Human Capital Management (HCM) and Payroll, General Ledger, and Financial Reports.

Rutgers Environmental Health Services
Rutgers Environmental Health Services offers training programs annually in Laboratory Safety Training/NJ Right-to-Know/HazComm/Chemical Hygiene/RCRA; Laboratory Safety Online Refresher; FMS/Housing New Employee NJ Right-to-Know Training; Radiation Safety; X-Ray Safety; BioSafety, and Stormwater Training.

Office of Instructional and Research Technology (OIRT)
OIRT will train faculty and staff in use of rich media production applications including video editing applications like Adobe Premiere, Final Cut Express and Pro, and iMovie; screen capture software such as Camtasia, Adobe Captivate, and Screenflow; and free applications like Audacity, Jing, and Photostory. OIRT offers a variety of online training opportunities, including GetIT: Gaining Experience Teaching with Instructional Technology; University Human Resources self-study; Sun Microsystems courses on administering Sun equipment and basic programming; Hewlett-Packard instructor-led online programs including systems administration, IT planning and applications packages. In addition, they link to University Human Resources Professional Development Program, University Human Resources IT Certificate Program for employees in IT job titles, the Division of Continuous Education, the Libraries, and each campuses' hands-on computer training offerings through Center for the Advancement of Teaching. Yearly workshops in Sakai are also offered.

School of Communication and Information (SC & I) Professional Development Studies
SC & I Professional Development Studies offers a variety of certificate programs, including certificates in Digital Libraries, Knowledge Management, and Social Media, the Preservation Management Institute, the Online Library Assistant Training Program, as well as the MLIS degree online.

Center for Continuing Professional Development
The Center offers continuing professional and technical training, both classroom and online, applicable across contexts and business sectors, in both profit and non-profit organizations. The programs are intended to assist middle management, upper management, and career changers. Selected subject areas: Administration and Business Skills; Computers and IT; Project Management; Process Management; Strategic Management; Technical Management; and People Management.

Staff Development Certificate Program (Human Resources- Newark)
The Staff Development Certificate Program is presented by Human Resources- Newark's senior staff members and is designed to provide focus on individual staff development, university policies and procedures, interpersonal and customer service skills. The program requires you to

Camden Educational Series
The Camden Educational Series (EdSeries) provides seminars and workshops on various IT-related topics. The instructors are staff members from Camden Computing Services and from other IT support groups in Camden. Recent topics include Excel, PowerPoint, myRutgers Portal, Scanmark, and Smart Classroom.

Newark Educational Series
Newark Computing Services provides training workshops for all faculty, staff and students. They offer a variety of technical workshops designed for beginner, intermediate and advanced learners. Workshops are offered through classroom and online training. Recent workshop topics include Microsoft and Adobe softwares, Blackboard, PHP/MySQL, Dreamweaver, etc.

MicroComputer Support Group
The MicroComputer Support Services Group offers free consulting and planning services to the faculty and staff of all Rutgers University departments. They also offer Departmental IT Planning training.
