Paul Robeson Library is hosting events throughout April to commemorate the life of its namesake, one of Rutgers’ most distinguished alumni.

April 9, 2018 marks the 120th birthday of Rutgers alum, actor, artist, and activist Paul Robeson. In honor of this milestone, Paul Robeson Library is hosting events throughout the month of April including an exhibit about his life, a documentary film screening followed by a panel discussion, and a birthday party on Rutgers Day!

Who Was Paul Robeson? is on exhibit now through May 15, 2018 at the Paul Robeson Library. Learn more about the early life and film and recording career of our multihyphenate namesake. Included in the free exhibit are images of Robeson’s tireless dedication to social activism.

On April 11, 2018, please join us for a screening of the documentary Paul Robeson: 20th Century Renaissance Man, Entertainer & Activist at the Rutgers–Camden Alumni House (312 Cooper Street) from 6 to 8 p.m. Following the short film, there will be a panel discussion with the director of the Paul Robeson House in West Philadelphia and a Robeson family historian. Birthday cake and light refreshments will be served!

During Rutgers Day on April 28, 2018, you are invited to join us in wishing a very happy birthday to Paul Robeson. Sign a jumbo birthday card, make a personalized button, or take a selfie with the actor, activist, and alum.
