Club Alex Returns to Alexander Library, Thursday May 14
A memorable night is in store once again for Rutgers seniors, as Club Alex will make its return to Alexander Library for Senior Days 2015.
Over the years, students have come into the habit of referring to Alexander Library in a tongue-in-cheek manner as a nightclub, especially while studying late into the night for finals. “Sorry, I can’t go out tonight,” they’d say, “I’m spending the night at Club Alex.”
Last year, the Libraries and the Office of Student Life made this joke a reality and, to help students celebrate the completion of finals, transformed the library’s reference room into a fully-functional nightclub featuring a DJ, dance floor, strobe and mood lighting, and even a bar. The event went viral and, in addition to a considerable amount of buzz on social media, caught the attention of an international audience with coverage in the online edition of The Independent, a widely read British newspaper, and other news outlets abroad.
Building off of that previous success, the Libraries will once again host Club Alex on Thursday, May 14, from 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. in Alexander Library. In addition to the converted reference room nightclub area, the lobby will be transformed into a dining lounge with light food, a photo booth, and other activities. A new feature for this year’s festivities, an R&B lounge will be installed on the ground floor. The Libraries will be live tweeting this event on Twitter (@RULibraries) and welcome partygoers to participate using the hashtag #ClubAlex.
Enthusiasm for this year’s iteration of Club Alex is evident, as tickets were sold out within hours of being released.
