NEW! Columbia Granger's World of Poetry

The Libraries latest acquisition is exceptionally well versed. The Columbia Granger's World of Poetry includes excerpts and full-text of tens of thousands of works of poetry. The collection is drawn from world literature from ancient to modern times in English and English translation. This database includes added features for literary scholars: author biographies; commentaries on selected poems; a glossary of terms; and a list of recommended anthologies. Most of the full-text poems included in the database are those in the public domain.

The poems in the database are drawn from anthologies selected by the Granger's editorial board. All anthologies that the board considers to be excellent or particularly important are indexed. In addition, all anthologies that are likely to have been bought by libraries, regardless of their literary quality, are indexed as well. The print counterpart to this database includes:

Forty-six of the biographies and one hundred of the commentaries from The Classic Hundred Poems have been adapted for Granger's® Online, and some biographies are based on articles in The Columbia Encyclopedia. Otherwise, all commentaries and biographies were written specially for this electronic work and have never appeared in print.

Simple and advanced search modes are available. The user can search on author, author category, subject, title, first line, last line and keyword. The author categories include such designations as nationality, ethnicity, gender, and time period.
