1) Extended Hour Pay Increase Meeting

During a voucher budget meeting in October, Melissa had asked SCG to come up with a proposal to standardize pay rates across all units to match the job descriptions we have. Pay rates at the libraries need to be reviewed to determine if we align with other Rutgers departments and with the Work Study pay ranges which increased in September.

Rose had distributed a spreadsheet with projected pay increases in quarter increments ($0.25, $0.50, $0.75, $1.00) from each unit's current extended hours pay rates.

After discussing potential pay rates, the group and Library Supervisor I's came up with two scenarios:

A. In this scenario, Crew members will make $10.50 an hour (same rate as Work Study Range III), and Captains will make $13.00 an hour (same rate as Work Study Range IV) as defined by the Student Employment Office.

B. The second scenario uses a tiered system to standardize pay rates. Extended hours employees will start off at a lower pay rate and will receive imcremental raises each year ending with the highest rate in their final year of employment. However, some supervisors questioned the fairness of a tiered system and argued that if a work study student in another department doing a similar job is already making $13.00 an hour we should offer our extended hours employees the same rate also.

In addition, Rose will ask the Student Employment Office if work study students assigned to Range III or Range IV can be paid a lower rate when they are working daytime hours performing Range II duties. If this isn't possible, then student coordinators can continue to enter shift differentials for Range II work study students who are working extended hours.

The group also decided that weekend/weeknight employees who work unsupervised should have a pay rate of $10.50 an hour. These employees usually work at branches and they call a full-time staff person at a larger unit for assistance.

2) Student Listserv

Approximately 350 students were added to the hourly_employees student listserv. Lily Todorinova sent an email to the listserv requesting participation in a web survey about students' use of Wikipedia.

Rose sent an email to the listserv advertising the SCG's "Security and Awareness Workshop" which will be held on November 20 and December 4 in the Pane Room at Alex.

3) Security and Awareness Workshop

The Security and Awareness Workshop (SAW) subgroup met to finalize the format of the workshop, which will review the Libraries' User Conduct and Security and other policies and procedures. Attendees will also be divided into groups and discuss 12 real life scenarios that have occurred at the Libraries.

4) Scheduling Software

Rose created accounts for testing LibStaffer scheduling software. Student Coordinators with a larger pool of student workers were selected to test the software, but any other student coordinators interested in testing should contact Rose. All of the testers agreed the tutorials are very long and confusing. Testers will continue testing the software and report their findings at the next meeting.

5) Information Sharing

Rose (Alex) and Chiaki (Douglass) are still conducting orientation sessions at their libraries.

Liza (Annex) is happy with her pool of students this year.

6) Next Meeting
