Minutes of October 8, 2014 Meeting

The meeting began with a call to order and introductions by the co-chairs. C. Wolff had distributed via e-mail relevant documents: a meeting agenda, a committee roster, a committee charge, and a draft grid of RUL Strategic Action Plan. C. Wolff went over the distributed handouts and draft goals.

I. Organizing State of the Libraries meeting

E. Parin introduced herself. She is coordinating the State of the Libraries this year. The theme is Enduring Change. It will be held on November 5, 2014 in the Busch Campus Student Center. A map of the layout of the event was distributed to attendees in New Brunswick. There will be 34 presenters this year. Volunteers are needed for 7:45am set up; three are needed for the registration desk and two people are needed for set up. A. Mayo and G. Wood volunteer for the 7:45am registration table; R. Sloat and D. Voorhees volunteer to be relief at 8:30am. There will be a tri-fold poster for the committee, highlighting the New Employee Handbook, the committee charge, web site, and will also serve as a point to collect training suggestions.

II. Discussion of how to assess and make recommendations to Lila Fredenberg regarding appropriate training programs

V. Cvetkovic supplied some background on the committee and its mission. Lila Fredenberg supplied the committee with a list of associations which provide training resources and appear as part of a draft list. It was suggested that the draft list be divided up among committee members who will see what is available and interesting in the way of training opportunities. There was a discussion among members about other possible resources, such as LEAD, NN/LM, RBHS HR, NISO, LibraryLinkNJ. C. Wolff mentioned the possibility of establishing and sharing a Google calendar. Members will explore the following: RBF (NN/LM, METRO, LibraryLinkNJ), D. Voorhees (PC Working Group, NJLA), M. Tokar (ARL), A. Mayo (LLAMA), C. Wolff, V. Cvetkovic (RU HR).

III. Maintaining the Training & Development Website

G. Wood volunteered to continue to coordinate this work. Old training opportunities will be removed.

IV. Reaching out to UHR to coordinate training sessions to be held at the Libraries

Discussed under #II above.

V. Creating and maintaining relationships with other committees within RUL as appropriate

Would like to monitor training offered by other RUL committees. The Center for Teaching Advancement and Assessment Research (CTAAR) would also be another source of training opportunities.

V. Cvetkovic mentioned that the New Employee Handbook has been getting good reviews. She and C. Wolff will review it for the next committee meeting.

Tentative agenda for next meeting:

Regular meetings to be held Wednesdays at 10am. November 12th will be the next scheduled meeting date. Lists of possible training sessions to be submitted to C. Wolff and V. Cvetkovic by November 5th.
