Migration Schedule Changes

Due to schedule conflict and some glitches, we have to postpone our scheduled migration. The new target date is first week of April. I will post more detailed schedule next month. I sincerely apologize for this late notice and abrupt change of schedule.

News update!

TSB building was successfully migrated to Windows server. It took us two days to finish about 65 PCs.

Here are some issues we found out:
Your login is a new profile and we copied your documents from the old user's (staffuser) profile. Be aware that some of your old documents and shortcuts still point to the old profile so make sure to save new documents or files to your current My Documents folder or on your desktop.

  1. We found some minor glitches like OCLC needs to redirect its ftp location to the new user profile instead of saving it to the previous staffuser profiles.
  2. When you save an attachment, it may go to the default old location so you need to 'Save In' and navigate to your current desktop or My Documents folder.
  3. We also found out that few programs need to be reinstalled on some PCs like TrendMicro, palm pilot.

I've also prepared some basic instructions on password related issues; please click the link below: http://www.libraries.rutgers.edu/rul/staff/systems/reports/novell_migration.shtml

Thank you for your continued cooperation and patience.

Changing Passwords

Changing Passwords: perform only if your Novell and Windows passwords are synchronized to one login only.

Note: Make sure the new password is at least 7 digits and contains a combination of Uppercase, lowercase, and numbers.

  1. Press Ctrl+Alt+Del simultaneously
  2. Click on the 'Change Password' button
  3. On the'Resource' column, make sure to highlight both RULIB and LIBRU username accounts
  4. Enter the Old password
  5. Type the New Password
  6. Confirm New Password
  7. Click OK

You should get a message that says "Passwords for all selected resources were successfully changed."

I can't login; I forgot my password.

Contact Nick Gonzaga or Anne Butman at Systems (732) 445-5896 to reset either Novell or Windows passwords.

I get a second login screen, how do I synch my passwords?

This procedure will change your Novell password to match Windows password.

  1. When your PC finished booting up, press Ctrl+Alt+Del
  2. Click on the 'Change Password' button
  3. On the 'Resource' column, highlight only the "LIBRU" tree, to change Novell password to match Windows password.
  4. Enter the old Novell password
  5. Enter your Windows Password in the New Password
  6. Confirm your New Password
  7. Click OK

You should get a message that says "Passwords for all selected resources were successfully changed."

Memo: February 21, 2008

In order to accommodate some users who traverse the network to connect to other Library servers, I have made some revisions for a smoother transition. All users will be switched to Windows network drives on the Same Day!

The migration schedule will be the same as indicated below with some changes.
Once the building/server is migrated, all users will be connecting to Novell and Windows Domain simultaneously using the Novell network drives as usual.
During migration, the only change is a new password to match Novell with Windows' password; unique passwords will be pre-assigned. If users are not around, we will migrate their workstations and provide them the necessary login info later.

When all buildings/users have joined the domain, All of us will be connecting to the Windows network drives on the same day.
This will eliminate most issues including server-roaming users and the previous exception on the Ereserve group. This means ereserve group PCs will be migrated following the schedule of their respective buildings.

Let me know if you have any questions or suggestions.

Thanks again,
