To find a journal, magazine, or newspaper article in the most popular databases in your subject area, enter your search term(s) and choose a subject from the pull-down menu. To find books and more in the Library Catalog, enter your term(s) and select a search type in the pull-down menu. For more information see "How Do I Find a Book?"

To find a print or electronic journal in the Rutgers collections, enter its title or keywords in the title and select the appropriate search type in the pull-down menu. For more information, see "How Do I Find a Journal?"

To find a list of books, textbooks, and electronic articles placed on course reserve by your instructor, enter your instructor's last name and search. You can also use the pull-down menu to search by course title or number.

The following form allows you to request an article or book that are not available at Rutger University libraries. NetID login is required for the form.

How to Request a Book via Interlibrary Loan?

If you need a book that is not owned by the Smith or RWJ Libraries, the instructions supplied below should be followed to request an item from another library.

  1. Search the , or from various links on the Smith/RWJ Web sites;
  2. If the book is NOT owned by any Rutgers University Library, click on the Interlibrary Loan link found on the Navigation Bar at the top of the page;
  3. Log in with your NetID/CORE ID;
  4. If you are a first time user, you will need to register (This takes a few minutes to type first/last name, e-mail address, status, discipline, and delivery location into a registration form);
  5. Choose ILL Book Request, located on the menu found on the left side of the page – a link for requesting a Book Chapter is also available;
  6. Complete the form with information about your item and click “Send”.

Your request will be processed by Rutgers University ILL staff. Once received by that department, the book will be sent via campus mail to your selected delivery site.

How to Request a Journal Article via Interlibrary Loan?

If you need a journal article that is not owned by the Smith or RWJ Libraries, the instructions supplied below should be followed to request an item from another library.

  2. If the journal title is NOT owned by any Rutgers University Library, click on the Interlibrary Loan link found on the Navigation Bar at the top of the  page;
  3. Log in with your NetID/CORE ID;
  4. If you are a first time user, you will need to register (This takes a few minutes to type first/last name, e-mail address, status, discipline, and delivery location into a registration form);
  5. Choose Article Request, located on the menu found on the left side of the;
  6. Complete the form with information about your item and click “Send”.

Your request will be processed by Rutgers University ILL staff. Once received by that department, the article will be sent via desktop delivery to your computer.

I’m on the Stratford campus and am enrolled in a Rutgers program. I need a book which none of the Rutgers University Libraries own. Help!

All interlibrary loan requests for Rutgers University faculty, students, or staff based on the Stratford campus will automatically route to the Smith Library in Newark.
