To find a journal, magazine, or newspaper article in the most popular databases in your subject area, enter your search term(s) and choose a subject from the pull-down menu. To find books and more in the Library Catalog, enter your term(s) and select a search type in the pull-down menu. For more information see "How Do I Find a Book?"

To find a print or electronic journal in the Rutgers collections, enter its title or keywords in the title and select the appropriate search type in the pull-down menu. For more information, see "How Do I Find a Journal?"

To find audio or video material in the Rutgers collections, enter one or more keywords and select the appropriate search type in the pull-down menu. For more information, see "How do I find audio or video materials?"

To find a list of books, textbooks, and electronic articles placed on course reserve by your instructor, enter your instructor's last name and search. You can also use the pull-down menu to search by course title or number.

Registering with the Rutgers Libraries

To begin using the Libraries and borrow books you need to register with the Libraries.  You’ll need your Rutgers NetID and library barcode (if you have one).  If you don’t have a barcode, one will be assigned   Guest and affiliate users will also be issued a PIN.  .

Rutgers NetID: The username associated with your Rutgers email account. Barcode: The 14-digit number beginning with '29030' ,'25145', ‘23008’ or ‘24008’ found on the back of your ID or RUConnection Card.
PIN:  a 4-digit personal identification number issued to guest and affiliate borrowers who need PINs to use MY ACCOUNT and for off-campus access if they are eligible.  Rutgers students, faculty, and staff use their NetIDs for online library services and do not need PINs.

You can register your barcode or get a PIN immediately by visiting or phoning the Circulation Desk of any Rutgers library.

Or, you can submit a request to a team of Rutgers Libraries staff by filling out the "Registering with the Rutgers Libraries" form. You will normally receive a registration confirmation within 48 hours, excluding weekends and holidays.
