The Rutgers University Libraries are committed to expanding the digitization of their unique and compelling resources. We are also interested in strategic collaboration with faculty and the community to provide outstanding information resources for the state of New Jersey and beyond.
Along with serving as a means of preservation, digitization gives researchers access to collections by making them available on the Internet. This further enables the use of collections for research, study, and instruction. Rutgers aims to advance global digital scholarship and information sharing through its digital initiatives.
Digitized materials are preserved in and displayed through the Rutgers Community Repository (RUcore), which makes the intellectual property of Rutgers University faculty and the output of Rutgers University departments, centers, and institutes permanently freely available for scholars and researchers around the globe.

All potential digitization projects at Rutgers University Libraries are required to undergo a proposal and evaluation process.
The Rutgers University Library collections are digitized in accordance with imaging and metadata standards. Rutgers University Libraries follow standard legal practices in utilizing new technologies to enhance access to library collections digitally. We provide assistance to project managers and strategic collaborators to clarify the legal framework of digitization and to discuss approaches to the preservation and access of individual projects, the application of copyright law, and other legal considerations.
