In Spring 2015, the Institute of Jazz Studies’ Jazz Piano: Contemporary Currents Concert Series will feature Tomoko Ohno and Brandon McCune. The concerts are free and open to the public. They will take place in the Dana Room on the 4th floor of the John Cotton Dana Library (185 University Ave., Newark, NJ 07102).

The concert featuring Tomoko Ohno will take place on March 17, 2015, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Ms. Ohno was born in Tokyo and began piano studies at the age of 4. She is a graduate of the Jazz Studies program at William Paterson University. She has performed with the Diva Jazz Orchestra, as well as with Slide Hampton, Benny Golson, Claudio Roditi, and others. Ms. Ohno also leads her own group, and has released three CDs on the Japan-based Tokuma label.

The concert featuring Brandon McCune will take place on April 14, 2015, 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm. Mr. McCune’s musical studies began at age three. For the past eighteen years, he has been an experienced professional musician serving as a principal music instructor, composer, counselor, arranger, and performer with a special concentration in the jazz, classical and gospel genres. He has worked as band leader, music director, or as a sideman for artists such as Betty Carter, Abbey Lincoln, Wynton Marsalis, Larry Ridley, and many others.
