Naomi was born and raised in Chicago and its northern suburbs, and has lived in Toronto, St. Louis, Birmingham and Tuscaloosa Alabama, and New York City.  She has B.A., M.A. and Ph.D. degrees in Religious Studies from Loyola University in Chicago, Washington University in St. Louis, and St. Michael's College-University of Toronto, respectively.  

In 2005, she was awarded an IMLS fellowship to attend the University of Alabama's School of Library and Information studies.  She subsequently taught both in-person and synchronous online classes for the University of Alabama M.L.I.S. program from 2007-2012, offering courses on digital (chat) reference, resources for the humanities and social sciences, academic librarianship, and introduction to reference service.  She has worked professionally as a librarian at Samford University, The College of Staten Island, Seton Hall University, and most recently, Rutgers Newark.  Her professional interests include developing strategies for effective library instruction; open access publishing; open and affordable textbook and course materials; and MLIS education.
