Eighteenth Century Journals is a collection of unique and rare periodicals representing the wide range of English language print culture in the long 18th century. Journals from the United Kingdom and its then-colonies, including United States, Canada, the Caribbean, and India are represented. A wide variety of subjects are addressed in these periodicals, which include political journals, newspapers, literary and poetry reviews, theatrical journals, fashion magazines, and other publication types. Rutgers has access to five sections of journals on this platform, which have been digitized from the collections of major libraries:

  • Section I: 1693-1793, from the Bodleian Library, Oxford
  • Section II: 1699-1812, from the Harry Ransom Humanities Research Center, University of Texas at Austin
  • Section III: 1680-1816, from the British Library and Cambridge University Library
  • Section IV: 1708-1820, from Chetham's Library, Manchester and the Brotherton Library, University of Leeds
  • Section V: The Lady’s Magazine and Other Titles, 1712-1835, from Birmingham Central Library, British Library, Cambridge University Library, and Liverpool John Moores University Library
