Mass Incarceration and Prison Studies
Mass Incarceration and Prison Studies is a collection of digitized primary sources on the global history and contemporary use of prisons. Materials include videos, documentaries, government documents, letters, essays, ephemera, interviews, news stories, photo essays, and scholarly books. Though the collection is global in scope, many materials are sourced from the U.K. and mass incarceration in the U.S. in the late 20th and early 21st centuries is a particular focus. A variety of browse options are available, including subject, place, and person. Some materials cover specific prisons such as Alcatraz, Sing Sing, Rikers Norway's prison, and Halden fengsel. Others focus on more general topics such as mental health, rehabilitation, juvenile offenders, prison gangs and riots, and the rights of prisoners.
