Description

Underground and Independent Comics, Comix, and Graphic Novels is a collection of thousands of digitized comics from around the world dating from the 1940s through the 21st century. It includes titles from the U.S., U.K., Canada, France, Italy, Spain, England, Sweden, Norway, Australia, Korea, Japan, and more, though North American comics are most broadly represented.

The collection shows the development of comics over time, including pre-Code comics of the 1940s and 1950s; transcripts of the senate subcommittee hearing that led to the Comics Code Authority; publications from the underground comix movement, which arose in response to the Comics Code; classic comics and graphic novels from around the world; and the rise of independent publishing houses and diverse voices. The collection also includes interviews, commentary, theory, and criticism which help to explain the historical context and cultural significance of comics. The collection also features some trade periodicals from the comics industry.

Please note that some digitized items may contain views, imagery, or terminology considered to be inaccurate, biased, or offensive, and some comics may include graphic content.
