Presentation Title:  Assisted Reproduction Options for the Lesbian, Gay and Transgender Communities

by Samuel C. Pang, BSc, MD, FRCS(C), FACOG

Dr. Samuel C. Pang, medical director of the Third Party Reproduction Program at Boston IVF, is subspecialty board certified in Reproductive Endocrinology, and has been in private practice in Massachusetts since 1993.  After obtaining his undergraduate and medical degrees from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver, Canada, he completed a rotating internship followed by a residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at the University of Toronto, Canada. He went on to complete a fellowship in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility at the UCLA School of Medicine in Los Angeles, CA, after which he took a position on the faculty in the department of Gynecology and Obstetrics at the Loma Linda University School of Medicine in California.  In June 1993, he moved to Massachusetts to join a private practice IVF clinic in the suburbs of Boston, MA as the associate medical director, and eventually assumed the position of medical director of the Reproductive Science Center of New England (RSCNE) in January 2007.

In January 1997, Dr. Pang was appointed medical director of the Third Party Reproduction program at RSCNE, a role that he continues to fill following the merger of RSCNE and Boston IVF in October 2014. In this position, Dr. Pang has been using assisted reproductive technologies to help lesbians and gay men build their families since the mid-1990s. He had the first opportunity to provide egg donation and gestational surrogacy services to a gay male couple in 1998, and has since gone on to provide these services to dozens of gay men.  He has been treating transgender patients since 2012, providing IVF services to families which include a transgender man or a transgender woman.  In addition, he has also been providing oocyte cryopreservation services to transgender men who desire fertility preservation.
