Food and Drink

The consumption of food and drinks are permitted, except in the designated areas identified below. Library users must, however, avoid consuming items that create messes, smells and/or noise. Users whose food disrupts others will be asked to put their food away or enjoy it outside Dana Library.

All library users are expected to act responsibly and courteously by disposing of trash and recyclables, and cleaning up spills and crumbs. Please report major spills to library staff as soon as possible.

Areas with restricted food or drink policies:

  • Institute of Jazz Studies and the Newark Archives: No food or drink
  • Computer classrooms, labs, and workstations: No food; Covered drinks are acceptable

Non-Compliance

Users who do not comply with these policies will be asked to take their food or drink outside of Dana Library.

Tabling in Dana Library Lobby

Rutgers student organizations, departments, and other university units may reserve space for tabling in the Dana Library lobby. Please note that amplified sound, food and drink, glitter, confetti, and sand are not permitted during tabling events. Read our Tabling Guidelines for more information.
