Description

Manuscript Women’s Letters and Diaries consists of hundreds of thousands of pages of personal writings of women from the collection of the American Antiquarian Society. The writings date from approximately 1750-1950, and the collection is particularly strong in 19th century material.

The contents consist of high quality images of the original manuscripts. Highlights include the letters written by Ellen Tucker Emerson, eldest daughter of Ralph Waldo Emerson; the letters of Annie Sullivan, teacher of Helen Keller; and the papers of Abby Kelley Foster, noted women's rights advocate and abolitionist, which depict the activities of the antislavery movement in New England, New York, and Ohio.
